[Geowanking] Mumbty grumbly - geometric networking, VB6, ArcObjects

Wankers,
I've just inherited a mess of VB6 code that uses geometric networking in
ArcObjects for some compelling hydrography generalization. I've been given
marching orders to turn this into Python code. I won't go into the details
of the ensuing argument or the obscenities that almost rolled off my
tongue... But the originating though is that the current mess of code, like
much ESRI-centric code, doesn't handle ESRI's version upgrades well. In
fact, on one target machine, some Windows Updates kill the code and require
a reinstall of ArcGIS. So the goal is to move it to something more stable.
The ESRI line is upgrade the code to .NET in VB or C#. But those giving me
orders feel that this won't improve things - and that Python will.
I don't want to rewrite the geometric networking functionality in
Python/OGR. I could use IronPython and have access to ArcObjects. But I
probably can't require the end users to install anything beyond the stock
ESRI kit.
I think I'm screwed. Thoughts?
