I got a couple of responses that indicate that my question was not
formulated clearly. The <openlayers> bit in the question above is
causing for misdirection actually... it is kinda unrelated. What I
seek is a cell-based selection method for areas of a map. I am looking
for a starting point for something like
http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SELECTION/inputCoord.asp, so I guess I will
just use that as a starting point. I also have GBIF's most excellent
interface as another option to work from. If someone has any other
suggestions, please send them my way. I will also look on the
openlayers list, just in case.
