I know that at least here in the UK, its possible to select which network
your phone connects to. So hidden away in the menus somewhere is a option to
list available networks (and hence choose which one you want to connect to).
I've used this a times out of interest to find what is available (usually in
desiding which network would be best for my next phone in given house).
Certainly I've used this on Nokia and Samsung handsets.
