[Geowanking] GIS Aid Jobs

This was one of my previous lives, about 18 years ago. In fact,
piddling around with Idrisi in the late 80's during project down time
(no gas, holed up in project housing, coup going on outside) was what
started my interest in GIS.

My suggestion is to get a technical position at NGO such as the
Conservation International, Nature Conservancy, etc. Or possibly
GeekCorps (geekcorps.org) There are private firms that specialize in
development work such as Chemonics and Associates in Rural Development
(ARD) that would have need for geospatial skills. Another alternative
is to take a few classes in development studies (pick your region of
interest) at a local university and try to get hooked into the
development community. Other things are language skills are must and
foreign travel is a plus but not as much as you would hope. Best of luck!
