guys are up to some interesting stuff.

Is there a list of the new features somewhere?

Actually there has been another one now :-) We are in the final throws 
of putting together a uDig 1.1 release with much improved editing, 
context documents, color brewer based themes (colorbrewer.org), and a 
bunch other fun stuff.

I am actually hoping some of our collaborations with OSSIM will be ready

in time ... eager to see how well a C++ and Java project can get along
