FUD aside, an Exchange 2000 or 2003 server provides a good deal of this already.
It provides a virtualized filesystem (drive M:) into the object database store.
Live filesystem access to what's actually stored inside a database.  This has
been shipping for nigh on four years.  The data is then also accessible via the
Active Directory (LDAP) interfaces.

So what do you mean by 'space/time' focus?
