Hi Jim,

Couple of maybes : get the symbols from somewhere like

http://home.online.no/~sigurdhu/12MAP_symbols.htm

and either trace over them in Amaya or push them through a converter -
there's one (somewhere, I've forgotten its name) that converts raster to
vector, or alternately use something like this :

http://www.enetzwerk.de/svg/index2.html

which will work out jpeg embedding for you.
Then again, maybe someone's already done it properly...
