I wonder if he uses social network analysis software
to do this. Krackplot for instance does this kind of
thing quite well.

it's a nifty programm but ancient: they take pride in
their gif export function(!) & dos only!
at least it's free. if anybody knows of more recent
(free) SNA software I'd like to hear it.
