hello+
Thinking about it, I may have been a geowanker all along
First job had me building location-based search engine, for a personals
service. At Yahoo, I had a hand in movies, tv, getlocal, and maps
properties. For years, I pushed to build a open access, geolocated
database of urban events -- looks like it's finally practical in this
present.
The World as a Blog - http://brainoff.com/geoblog/. Released last week,
to great response. Some of Andy's comments have triggered
investigations int Geo-oriented views on IM/Chat. Looking at Jabber
now.
I too, am very interested in using simulation for aiding land
management and policy decisions, and guiding scientific research in
ecology. This will be a focus of my graduate study next year, at U. of
Sussex.
A book I highly recommend, for insight into the most current efforts
and real life struggles in building simulations is, the amply titled,
"Integrating Geographic Information Systems and Agent-based Modeling
Techniques for Simulating Social and Ecological Processes". One of the
most high profile applications of this technique, was in the planning
of the massive Everglades restoration project - http://atlss.org/
This is very exciting time, hope to contribute in the building the
future, .. so that the past and present is alive, and available for
download, on every street corner.
Mikel
